When the military services commission designers to refurbish accommodation you appreciate how far the professions profile has improved over the last 20 years. fruition secured the contract to provide a new alcohol free social space for Cadets 5 weeks ago. The new facility was opened by Admiral Sir Jonathon Band GCB, ADC, First Sea Lord of the United Kingdom on 9th April 2009.

The project brief illustrates how an institution steeped in history and tradition needs to respond to the realities of the modern world. The new lounge is an alcohol free area, this in part reflects the number of overseas cadets from cultures where drinking is not accepted, and inpart a response to the changes in our societies attitudes.

The new space features large format vintage photographs of "J Class" yachts of the early 20th century, including the famous Shamrock. These pictures were taken by Frank Beken, more can be read about his work at www.beken.co.uk/history.htm. We also installed two "J Class" models Cup Challenger and Endeavour to reinforce the ties to the maritime traditions beyond the Navy.

In addition to the nautical accessories we have installed new lighting, refurbished the parquet floor, provided new chairs and tables, fitted new curtains, built a new bar, installed 50" plasma screen with satellite dish, redecorated and fitted new carpet. From commission to completion in 5 weeks.
